Graeme McDowell is eager to perform well at the upcoming International Series Macau presented by Wynn, as the event offers three qualifying spots for The Open, which will be held at Royal Portrush, his home course in Northern Ireland, this summer. The US$2 million tournament begins next Thursday at Macau Golf and Country Club, and McDowell, representing Smash GC on LIV Golf, is enthusiastic about the opportunity.
Speaking during LIV Golf Singapore, the 2010 US Open champion highlighted the significance of next week’s event. He expressed his extra motivation due to The Open being hosted in his hometown. While focusing on this weekend’s competition, McDowell acknowledged that he feels more comfortable with his current approach and is optimistic about pathways to major tournaments becoming clearer.
Reflecting on his career, McDowell admitted that during the first couple of seasons with LIV Golf, he struggled to find purpose. However, he now sees a bigger picture and feels inspired by playing on a team like Smash GC, which provides him with a greater sense of purpose. He aims to qualify for major championships again and appreciates the opportunity to work toward long-term goals while competing.
McDowell, who recently tied for 12th at LIV Golf Hong Kong, looks forward to continuing his strong form in Macau.
