International Series Macau presented by Wynn: Statistically speaking

The International Series Macau presented by Wynn showcased the skills of elite ball-strikers, with top iron players dominating the leaderboard after 72 holes. The greens at Macau Golf and Country Club posed significant challenges, featuring speeds exceeding 11 on the Stimpmeter and demanding pin placements that required precise approach shots to avoid three-putts. Over the course of the tournament, players recorded 360 three-putts or worse. Among those who made the cut, only Lucas Herbert from Australia and Seungsu Han from the United States avoided three-putting entirely, while the highest individual count reached 10.

One player compared the greens’ speed and slope to those at Augusta National, home of the Masters Tournament. Ultimately, Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz secured victory by three strokes over runner-up Patrick Reed of the United States, marking his second win on both the Asian Tour and The International Series. Ortiz excelled with a combination of strong iron play (ranking T2 in Greens in Regulation at 84.72%), effective putting (ranked fourth in Putts per GIR at 1.656), and power off the tee (ranking T12 in Driving Distance with an average of 313.38 yards). He also tied for Most Birdies with 23 alongside Reed, Sergio Garcia, and Abraham Ancer, while Jason Kokrak led this category with 24 birdies.

Patrick Reed delivered an almost flawless performance in approach play, leading Greens in Regulation at 90.28%. However, his putting faltered during the weekend rounds, where he posted higher putts per round averages and ranked 27th in Putts per GIR at 1.738. Reed did excel in minimizing mistakes, topping the Fewest Bogies or Worse category with just four.

Jason Kokrak finished third and impressed with his putting skills, ranking second in Putts per GIR (1.593) and T2 in Putts per Round (27.5). His driving distance averaged 323.63 yards (ranked fifth), giving him shorter approaches into par fours and fives that contributed to his birdie count.

Sergio Garcia had a solid week statistically but fell short in Greens in Regulation (72.22%, ranked T35), which hindered his ability to contend for victory despite strong performances in putting and driving metrics.

Key statistical leaders for players making the cut included Patrick Reed for Greens in Regulation (90.28%), Jazz Janewattananond for Putts per GIR (1.588), Jubin Yang for Driving Distance (331.88 yards), and Adrian Meronk for Most Eagles (3).
